For those that had never heard of Lil Mouse, millions have now due to the rapid success of Lil Wayne’s Dedication 4 mixtape released this past Labor Day that is breaking bandwith records for a mixtape on the internet. Literally stated Wayne is fucking up the web! On the tape Wayne raps over a song called “Dont Get Smoked” by the 13 year old Chicago rapper. The original version of the song is as street as ever and features the younging rapping in a Shawty Lo-esque style filled with gun bars, money talk and death threats.
At its height the song and video had gotten up to 600K views on YouTube and was removed because it was deemed as child abuse. I believe it reached similar or greater numbers on WSHH as well who were also forced to remove it. With Wayne remixing the track, it has given it new life and sparked a bidding war for Lil Mouse that DJ Folk (@DJFolk on twitter) said includes “EVERY LABEL.” I would imagine that due to the love he showed the youngster Wayne and the YMCMB crew would have the inside track but this is not verified.
With that being said and the song being 100x more popular now how do you guys feel about a 13 year old taking on such mature subect matter? I mean he’s no different than Chief Keef who’s just turned 16 and was rewarded for his wild music with 4 contracts (solo deal, label, movies, headphones). So the questions I ask are:
1. What do you think of Lil Mouse and his adult themed music?
2. Who is at fault here?
3. What label should sign him? Why/why not?

As a parent, I see this in many ways, but I come mainly from a place of disgust. This child has no idea what he is talking about and obviously his parents are pimping him out for financial gain, which is commonplace in 2012. The fact that he is promoting this music to children in his demographic is even worse. This generation coming up now has too much free access to information they shouldn’t be privy to as it is. When I was younger, we were sheltered from seeing certain images or hearing certain things for our own good. I used to look forward to getting older so I could be exposed to those things but I didn’t feel like I was missing anything because I had entertainment and educational materials (edu-tainment) which catered too my age group. There is no filter now, everything is completely raw for all to see and hear. This song and music of its kind is destructive. I dont blame “Lil Mouse” because honestly he is a product of what he has been exposed to. He is a child who has been brainwashed and “hoe’d” out. Jay-Z said it best “You cant knock the hustle” so salute to the new Joe Jacksons of the world.. I guess.
Excuse the typos…
I never heard the record or the freestyle but i hear everybody talkin about it. The problem is i dont think that lil mouse’s team realizes the type of influence me they are putting on the youth. I dont think items cool; now u have 2 young kids from chicago (an extremely violent city) promoting more violence. I dont think thats what the streets or us as culture needs right now. And the said part is at no matter what, ppl will continue to talk about this kid making him successful in the industry because this type of rap style is so out of the ordinary for a child.
